The Red Mulberry, Morus rubra, is a species of mulberry that is native to eastern and central North America. It can be found from Ontario, Minnesota, and Vermont in the north to southern Florida in the south, and in the west as far as central Texas, southeast South Dakota, Nebraska, and Kansas.
Do not plant close to a house as they grow fast and will get too big without proper pruning. The mulberry trees have very dense and strong roots that will rob most other tree roots off their nutrients, especially if the other plants or trees are in pots, the mulberry tree roots will get up into the pot, constrict the roots of the host and take over. Leave a space of at least 10 feet to prevent that problem.
